Omnimedia

In a particularly auspicious beginning to my day, as the F train was pulling into Jay Street this morning, it lost power. We glided to a stop, and then sat there for twenty minutes in the dark. I would like to say that twenty minutes on a non-ventilated, non-moving, crowded subway car is both uncomfortable and stiiiiiiiinky. At least there was enough light for me to keep working on my crossword puzzle.

I should consider myself lucky that the school group that boarded the train shortly afterward was NOT on the train during the hiatus in the dark. Besides being that peculiar brand of raucous that young teenagers like to exhibit, one girl apparently got upset about something and started stomping back and forth across the car, tearing off her jacket and throwing it at a friend to hold, and screaming about how some other girl would not be able to walk once she got through with her. So, you know. That was fun. And, I have to say, also sorely limited my ability to concentrate on the aforementioned crossword puzzle.

The cosmos made up for the less-than-ideal subway trip, though; seems that Martha Stewart Omnimedia is having some sort of gala event at a reception hall near my office tonight. I have been able to walk back and forth and see people bustling around and setting up sign-in-sheets and gift bags, as well as brigades of chefs preparing food inside a big tent set up, oddly, on the sidewalk. I entertained myself for AGES by daydreaming that someone would walk past me carrying something heavy and start to drop it, but then I would catch it and carry it inside for them, and everyone would be so thankful that they would invite me to the gala and I would get to help with the cooking and meet Martha Stewart and probably wear a new suit! Which, really? Is just about a perfect daydream for me. In fact, I think I might go have it again. And maybe add in a part where someone offers me a fabulous new job, too.
