Excuses Excuses

LAST NIGHT I BOUGHT A CASHWORD LOTTERY TICKET AND WON $10,000!!!!

Not really. In fact, I am out the $2 it cost me to buy the thing in the first place. But that would have been a really exciting thing, were it true.

Instead of talking about what I am going to do with my winnings, I will instead relate the story of the book signing I went to , for the book that contains the wise, wise words of This Fish, which is really just the best-written thing.

The book itself, judging from the selected readings, is something that would just drive me crazy, to be honest. It was a bunch of straight guys justifying their own poor behavior with women, saying they could not help it because they have been emasculated by feminism. Example: A husband and wife go out with their kids all day, they are all tired, they come home, and the husband makes himself a sandwich while his wife takes care of and breastfeeds the kids. And then he seems to not understand when his wife is upset that he made dinner for himself, and nobody else. But he only made dinner for just himself because he is so used to his wife doing everything for herself, he assumed that she would handle feeding herself and the kids.

Maybe it is because I am already dating another guy, and therefore have little to no problem with this whole ridiculous "emasculation" issue, but fucking get over yourself. If you have been out all day, and you want a sandwich, you say "Hey, d'you want anything to eat? I'm making a sandwich." Stop making excuses for being a lout. Do some dishes. Stop assuming that your wife is going to handle taking care of the kids. Honestly.

After the reading, This Fish and her friend and I spent quite some time discussing the strange books in the health section at B&N: for example, who knew that there was a call for that many Diseases For Dummies books? Asthma for Dummies. Hypoglycemia for Dummies. Breast Cancer for Dummies. I have to say, if you have breast cancer, is it not just pouring salt in the wound to call you a dummy on top of everything else?
