You know it's bad when The Kate posts more often than you.
Sometimes I think that I've said everything there is to say; at least until things happen and I move and my life goes topsy-turvy again. Most of the time I realize this idea is ridiculous.
Some entries I half-wrote in my head and then abandoned, due to either an excess of ennui or a dearth of time:
1) I had the best dream of my life a few weeks ago. Even better than flying across the moors with a flock of geese, this time I was a bona fide member of the British royal family, having a cigarette with William and Harry near the potting shed behind Windsor Castle. I was chauffeured, wined, dined, and I saw a marvelous production of My Fair Lady, starring Camilla as Eliza Dolittle.
2) My jewelry is running away from me. Last summer, the necklace I'd worn every day for about ten years was lost to the sea at Long Beach. I still reach for it every time I'm in the shower. A silver ring with gold screws went missing. My dragon pinky ring flew away. The silver knotted-rope ring got bent out of shape. A few weeks ago, the pin in my watchband snapped in two places, and I've yet to bring it in for repair. And last week, my antique fork ring (purchased on Portobello Road, Portobello Road, street where the riches of ages are stowed) was suddenly nowhere to be found. I actually went out in public with no adornment other than my one tiny gold earring, if you can imagine the shame. When Mike found it, improbably, in the nightstand drawer the other day, I just cackled and rolled around on the Klaus with glee for a good ten minutes.
3) I have exactly two weeks left in my physics class. Oh, the bender I shall go on when that bitch is done.
4) There are lilacs everywhere! Except in my house. I keep forgetting to buy some, so I just have to inhale extra deeply when I pass by them on campus.
5) I'm still looking for an apartment. All right, I admit, I'm looking in a fairly desultory fashion, and very soon (i.e., right fucking yesterday) I'll have to sit down and make phone calls and appointments.
6) Hitchhiker fucking rocks. I liked it even more the second time. Tiger likewise rules the school. Besides, walking into a store filled with dozens of people screaming and clapping and cheering for you -- it's a remarkably heady experience.
7) I met someone with a South African accent and an eyepatch.
8) I also met someone who I used to read on Diaryland, but I didn't find that out for a week.
9) Butterflies are amazing.
10) A few Sundays ago, I ate more foie gras in one sitting than I have ever seen in my life all put together. Later the same day, I drank half a dozen mojitos and caipirinhas, more foie gras, Peruvian asparagus, and dates stuffed with almonds and wrapped in bacon. It's very very good to have friends with just as poor impulse control as me.
